Spring Break Drama

Head right over to The Wild Adventures of Austin and Logan to read the story of our harrowing day last week. I insisted that Donna blog this story for two reasons. 1. She spins an awesome yarn and always has me cracking up at the antics of these boys. 2. My guy was the rock thrower and her poor guy was the bleeder...brave Superhero boy. Van still randomly brings up the day and says I am sorry I hit Logan with a rock...lesson learned...yes. Donna tells the tale perfectly so I'll just throw in few cute shots of the Fantastic Four and let it at that.

The Pose

Not sure where it came from or why but lately the only pictures we can get of both boys involve "the pose". Apparently "the pose" is the most hysterical thing these brothers have ever done. Next time I'll use the flip camera so you can hear the joy that goes along with it.

Sweet Sweet Easter

Make sugary treats...eat sugary treats.
Find sugar filled eggs...eat sugar out of eggs, minus the ants that also enjoyed some of the sugary goodness.
Search for slightly sugary filled Easter baskets and consume again in preparation for church in our Sunday best. Note...their super cool new super hero underwear is hiding beneath for those shocked to see them in actual clothing!

Our very own Blue Man Group

Not quite as loud as the real band but certainly as blue thanks to the yummy baseball game cotton candy. They are truly "Nuts for Nutzy". What a fun night with our China Moon friends.

The Sound of Silence

...almost always spells trouble in this house. I can tell that trouble is brewing when it gets very very quiet around here. One morning I ran upstairs for something and left the boys downstairs among the Power Rangers, Battleforce 5 and every other toy imaginable. I could tell right away that they were up to something. I came down to find Van chewing on something as he proudly announced..."we're having candy for breakfast!". Then I spot Zak "hiding" in their favorite corner spot surrounded by candy wrappers and picking up Nerd candies off the rug and shoveling them into his mouth. Not bothering to hide the evidence and no denying they were guilty and really happy to be eating candy for breakfast. These are the moments for me when it's so hard to be a mom. You just know you are supposed to punish them and turn it into a "teaching moment" but instead it's all I can do to burst into tears laughing as just how bad they are being bad. One lesson learned for mommy tho...put the Easter baskets out of reach.

Men of the house working in pastels

We are missing Daddy this week while he plays...uh I mean works in Vegas! But the boys are manning up in a big way and behaving really well. Mommy took the opportunity to bake and do Easter crafts with her manly men...

Welcome to Big Boy School

Today was a big day for our big boy...kindergarten registration. Hard to believe we are crossing the threshold of elementary school already. Van is so ready. He actually thought he would be staying there all day today. He was clearly disappointed that he wasn't staying for lunch in the cool cafeteria with the giant dinosaurs painted on the walls. Our county requires all kindergarteners to take a placement test to create a bell curve for each of the classes. As it was explained to me, "to give these poor teachers a fighting chance". Our awesome preschool has been preparing us for this all year and today was the day to shine. We worked on drawing a picture of a person with 10 body parts, counting, the alphabet our name, address, phone number, birthday and don't forget identifying 8 body parts and drawing shapes, oh the list goes on and on. Little did Mom know that there were 8 very specific body parts we needed to know...can you say jaw, hips, waist and heel...yep we missed all four of those...my bad for sure. But Van did well on the things that matter...ABCs, numbers, name, speech and of course standing on one foot and hopping. The dad sitting next to me even remarked that Van "sure went in there with a lot of confidence". All in all a great success. So now he counts down the days till he gets to ride the big boy bus and Mom works on practicing how to not bursting into tears on that first day all the while drilling lil bro on his rarely mentioned heels and ear lobes. Oh and don't forget how little bro who is now "pretend 5 years old" works on his scheme for getting to ride that bus too. Big big love for these too big boys.

Take me out to the ballgame

Van decided on his own that he wanted to play baseball this year. He's playing with a coach he knows and some friends on the team so we are hoping for a successful year. The cold temps, wind, rain and even hail was a bit discouraging but the first at bat and run of the bases sealed the deal for this future all star. So proud of this 5 year old.

Still Celebrating

Then there was the school birthday celebration and the family celebration. Had to show off the super cute goodies Aunt Beth found for us to create for the class. The sleeping bags are really a present for Mom and Dad in hopes that the boys will choose to stay in them instead of our bed. Everyone benefits from birthdays around here.
