Battleforce 5 Birthday Bash

The birthday boy certainly had his share of celebration this week. So much so that I haven't had time to blog any of it yet. It started with the arrival of FairyGodmother Beth and Uncle Dan from Texas. The boys couldn't get enough of their Aunt and Uncle time. Aunt Beth scored big time with the Battleforce 5 swag....the Mattel outlet in Texas will never be the same! If you don't have boys in your house, you've probably never heard of Battleforce 5. Hot Wheels meets Power Rangers with cars that have cool weapons. Turn that into a 5 year old birthday party...for us it involved a savenger hunt for the bad guy, a pin the tail attack on the bad guy, lots and lots of Battleforce 5 cars and DVDs as well as a full-on silly string attack of the biggest bad guy, Zemerick. A big hit for sure.

Officially off restrictions!

We are a fork family again...yippee...yahoo! Zak's first words..."now I can eat...pause...CANDY! and fruit snacks. Oh and a straw and CRUNCHY stuff too." Not sure who was happier this morning...the boy eating cereal or the boy eating a Pop Tart. Happy days are here again. The doctor still isn't sure the verdict on the small hole remaining in the palate but we will keeping watching and be hopeful that we might not need another surgery. Getting ready for party time with Fairy Godmother Beth and Uncle Dan this week...the boys can't wait for them to get here.

Birthday Season begins

Van is counting down the days till his 5th birthday. In the meantime, he's attended quite a few fun birthday parties for friends and family. Spring is certainly upon us...daylight savings is working in our favor with extra tired boys and early bedtimes. Today was our first little league practice and Van had a blast. What a fun spring we have to look forward to.

No forks yet...but plenty of ride time

Still awaiting the all clear on the forks and straws. But we did get the go ahead to get back on the bike and ride from surgery #2. Talk about one happy bike ridin' boy! Of course the fact that he can hardly see over his helmet had little effect on his mad pedaling skills or his joy!

And the soft diet continues...

Zak had his two week follow up appointment today with our plastic surgeon. It looks like there is still a hole in the palate but we are all very hopeful that it will heal or be somewhat of a non issue if the nasal repair is not affected. Worst case scenario another palate surgery down the road but fingers crossed that it resolves. In the meantime, still not cleared for his lemonade with a straw or an ice pop...the two things he asks about daily! Of course there is also the request for cereal and fruit snacks and a fork but he doesn't seem too bummed about those just yet.
Still happy as a boy can be on a zipline.

Alvin and the road to recovery

Apparently the only way to get well at our house is to watch Alvin and the Chipmucks again and again and again....ALVIN!!!!!!
Luckily this mom is an Alvin fan from way back when but seriously we watch it right up to bedtime and then the minute we wake up. First words every morning..."Time to watch Alvin now?"
Oh sometimes we do alternate with The Incredibles. What a nice break.
Recovery is going well...slowly but surely. Eating is our toughest challenge just as we suspected and keeping the wrestling at bay is certainly next. Looking forward to seeing the doctor today for an update.
A little rainy day play certainly helped break up the Incredible Alvin marathon.

Home Sweet Home

Mr. Perfect Patient got sprung from the hospital in just over 24 hours. He impressed all the nurses and staff with his smiley face and joking personality. I lost track of how many people said they just wanted to take him home and squeeze him. The trick now is remembering that he is still healing. He's walking/running around and talking up a storm already. Talking a bit less loud which is a win on the ear tubes portion and he's complaining that everything he hears now is "too loud". He's struggling with the fact that he can't feed himself but he's mastered the art of melting the ice cream long enough to drink it and dunking bread into the food to use that as a utensil...crazy smart and just as crazy cute! So good to be home with big brother.
