Spring Break

We took advantage of Daddy's work hotel room and had a spring break adventure.  What's not to love about a hotel, airplanes, hair dye and mini golf?

Happy Easter to all our Peeps!

As usual, the boys had a SWEET day!  Lots of fun treats were prepared and consumed.  Magic jelly beans turned into Giant Lollipops and fun was had by all!

Twist, Shout, Calypso and the ToothFairy

How's that for a weekend of fun?  We surprised the boys with a trip to Baltimore.  First stop, The Lyric theater to see "The Fresh Beat Band".  They rocked the house of toddlers and tots and served "Mommy and Daddy drinks" at the concession stand...what could be better?  How about  Zak falling asleep during the last song!  Next stop, a hotel.  We realized that the boys have not been in a hotel since we were in China.   They were beyond excited.  Beds to jump on, a pool inside and lots of hallways and elevators to explore.  Today we hit the Baltimore Aquarium for more fun.  Van fell in love with a giant turtle named Calypso who was rescued off the coast of New York in freezing waters and lost a flipper after his recovery.  We got to see feeding time with all the divers so that was a huge bonus.  The dolphin show was another hit.  Bonus excitement of the day-- Zak finally losing his loose tooth as the dolphins hit the stage.  Great road trip weekend for all.

A 6 year old in the house

Van is turning 6...yikes, wow, how can it be?  He is beyond excited for this birthday and it's been so much fun to watch him countdown and anticipate and be so joyful.  We celebrated with his buddies this past weekend because we have a special surprise planned for the boys this weekend.  Star Wars cake and favors and a whole lotta boy time!  Love this precious boy beyond words.
Happy happy 6 to our happy happy son!

Spring is in the air

Unseasonal warm temperatures these past few weeks have the boys ready to jump into summer activities. Camping  (in their bedroom under a blanket...that counts right?), climbing, swinging and barefoot playing make for some happy happy times.

Diving in

Just weeks away from birthday number 6...how is that even possible?  Van is showing off lots of growing up stuff.  While swimming at our local indoor pool today, he watched a boy, maybe 9 or 10 tackle the diving board for what appeared to be the first time ever.  His dad and mom were encouraging, his little sister watched with delight and he made the jump and then made it again and again and again.  Van watched and processed and then "can I do that?".  His swimming has certainly improved 100% since last summer but I was quite sure he wasn't gonna really try that jump.  But we of course said "sure you can do that".  He waited and swam some more, jumped off the side some more and just kept his eye on the prize.  He did a couple practice jumps off the side in the deep end with daddy close by and then he decided he was ready.  Zak and I took our seats in the cheering section of the bleachers.  He climbed up and walked out and then stopped and waited and waited and waited.  His new "hero" jumper friend decided he needed another round so Van stepped off and let him go ahead.  I'm guessing that was the turning point for him.  He must have decided he had to do it, he could do it and he would prove it.  And he did.  5 jumps later, he was beyond proud and just glowing.   I am sure I didn't jump off a diving board that high till middle school.  So proud of how he is so willing to try new stuff lately.  So proud of his patience and his happiness.  No pictures of today's big event but I'm sure he will insist on video to prove it next time.

"Knows a lot about that"

The boys had lots of fun celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday last week.  We counted almost 15 Dr. Seuss books at our house and read them all and then of course we had to go to the opening of The Lorax.  There's nothing funnier than hearing them explain the movie to each other in their best "quiet" movie voices.
