Ok, so I'm up and somewhat refreshed now. Let's see if I can write something semi-coherent.
Yesterday was a big jumble of amazing and suck:
Seeing the "Bird's Nest" Olympic Stadium - Amazing
Forgetting to re-charge the Camera batteries - Suck
Taking a Dragon Boat across a gorgeous lake at the Emperor's Summer Palace - Amazing
Forgetting to bring the sunscreen so I had to keep my jacket on - Suck
A lunch of traditional Inner Mongolian dishes - Amazing
Realizing the only liquid anyone in this country drinks cold is beer - (well, that wasn't so bad)
Hiking up the Great Wall - Amazing
Hiking up the Great Wall - Suck
Seeing the 'Beijing #1 Carpet Factory' and how it takes them a year to make a 8' x 10' rug - Amazing
Realizing what the women who work there probably are paid for that year - Suck
Another extravagant dinner of hard-carved Peking Duck and yummy vegetables - Amazing
Knowing I'm on day 4 of 14 and that I'm down to half of my Pepto-Bismol - Suck
Anyway, Beijing is great - but I'm ready to get on down to Guanzhou. I won't write too much about the pollution, the hygiene, or the squalor now - simply because I'm still in country and should the Government be monitoring this blog I'd rather not get jailed as a dissident.
However it is, despite everything, a wonderful city - vibrant, friendly, and man are they fired up about the Olympics. I am very happy for our time here and we have seen some truly fantastic things. We took some pics with the other family's camera and will post those when they email them to us....
Today - the Forbidden City and then leaving on a jet plane for the southland.
Tomorrow - Gotcha Day!

I just had to say that this is a pretty funny one, and also i'm sitting here watching some rather weird program on your tv, where it's just a bunch of birds, and shots of nature....really strange but yet i haven't bothered to change the channel could be why Iggs & Abbs are acting a lil crazy.
Nice play-by-play on the day's events. Despite the minor annoyances it sounds like you're having a great time. I can't wait to see you guys next, so I can comb through all the rest of your pictures.
No matter how many 'suck' moments you have, none of them will matter after tomorrow. Exciting stuff!
I can't wait to read all the coming updates ... I'll keep thinking good thoughts for you guys.
Getting down to the real reasons for the trip now -- I'm sure the sightseeing has been awesome but I'm just as sure that you're really ready for the main event. So enjoy your flight and savor the moments ahead! We're thinking about youse guys.

Loving the blob! Think this was my favorite so far. Can't wait to hear about Day 1 with Van the Man!
